Remixing

“When we copy, we justify it, when others copy, we vilify” I never really delved into the whole idea of what remixing is. I knew it happened, I knew of it happening in a lot of songs, but I never really sat down to analyze it. I was quite surprised and even enlightened in learning that in actuality, everything indeed is remixed. I don’t usually get hanged up on it, but I do notice it from time to time, especially with songs. When I hear about some lawsuits based on song copy rights, I sometimes get shocked. It is a lot of money that can be made based on these claims. I also noticed how some of the most popular songs now are really similar on other songs, because of the style of the song, or the lyrics of the song. I think it’s a little bit ridiculous when these accusations are made when there is little to no similarities between the songs, but it’s all based on the people’s opinion. The first time I noticed it for myself was pretty recently when I came upon the Casey Dienel filling a lawsuit against Justin Bieber. Personally, I find very little recumbence, so I find it a little bit absurd.

  1. I completely agree! It is so surprising to hear about these claims against artist but I feel it is getting more and more difficult to make a claim as everything is so remixed! What is an original anymore? I feel like some songs we feel are original are actually influenced by another song. It is never ending.
